Lamb Sales
Double "S" Sheep Ranch is pleased to provide our old and new customers with our highest quality lamb products. We specialize in the production of chemical and hormone-free animals. Canadian lamb has been proven to be less fatty and more nutritious than imported lamb. Our lamb comes from a cross of the North Country Cheviot sheep and the Dutch Texel sheep. This cross of the two excellent breeds provides a meatier carcass. We sell fresh local lamb here in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada.
Buy Local Lamb
We started our sheep ranch in 2001 in Owen Sound,Ontario,Canada. We purchased a small flock of purebred North Country Cheviot Sheep. This breed originated in the north hills of Scotland and England.
North Country Cheviots are excellent mothers and their newborn lambs are more hardy than many other breeds. This breed can withstand hard winters and graze well over hilly pasture.
In 2005,we decided to cross the North Country Cheviot with the Dutch Texel to improve the quality of the finished carcass.
We were very pleased with the result.
At Double S Ranch, we strive to produce a healthy flock by maintaining a closed flock and implementing bio-security best practices.
We take orders for our lamb starting in October. We sell 1/2 and whole carcasses. Our local butcher will take your order for custom cuts.
Please refer to the Retail Cuts of Lamb Chart in the drop down menu to help select your choice of cuts.

Nutrition & Health Benefits
Lamb is a leaner meat, and contains higher omega 3 fatty acids, which are considered 'heart healthy. Lamb meat contains CLA another fatty acid which has shown great promise in fighting tumors and breat cancer in laboratory tests.
Lamb meat is good source of iron and vitamins and protein that is rich and balanced in essential amino acids. It is particularly rich in vitamin B‐12, and in niacin, zinc and iron.Less is more – how much you eat is just as important in a healthy diet as what you eat.
Lamb cuts are smaller than other meats providing you with just the right‐sized portion of meat for a healthy lifestyle.A good quality lamb will have a nice fat finish, which not only adds flavour to the lean meat, but can also be – in the right amount – a healthy part of a balanced diet. Fat provides energy. It is one of the basic elements of body cells. It enables the production of hormones and the uptake of vitamins A, D, E and K into the human body.
Certain fats (Omega‐3, for example) cannot be produced by the body. Therefore, these types of fat have to be absorbed from the food you eat.
Stearic acid accounts for almost one third of the total saturated fatty acids contained in lamb meat. Contrary to the majority of saturated fats, stearic acid can lead to an increase of good cholesterol and has no impact on the level of bad cholesterol.Just 3oz of cooked lamb, with any excess fatremoved, provides the average person with 48% of their daily protein requirements, 30% for zinc, 10% foriron, 37% for vitamin B‐12and 27% for niacin.
Cooking Lamb
Most Canadian lamb is produced and processed locally or regionally. This means that the meat is fresh and in prime condition.
Canadian lamb is young and tender. It is not necessary to marinate the chops before cooking.
Lamb is tastiest when it is served slightly pink. The internal temperature is an effective way to verify cooking. This can be checked by inserting a thermometer into the meat at its thickest part. At 68 °C (155 °F), it is justright. The meat should be served hot and on a heated plate.
Many cuts, such as loin chops, rib chops, and leg chops are ideal to serve as smaller portions. Other cuts, such as rolled roasts, whole leg, or crown roasts offer great value for larger meals.
Lamb is good for you “According to the Chinese, lamb is one of the most warming of meats for the body and is relished in wintertime dishes. The meat increases qi, or body energy, and is used to treat general weakness, anaemia orimpotence.”
